BATTLE TACTIC #1: GATE CARD PLACEMENT - JANUARY 2010
Welcome to the first issue of Battle Tactics with BrightLight!
I’m very excited to bring you this new article which will be published monthly, highlighting battle strategies for you to hone your brawling skills and become a top brawler. And with Baku-Con just around the corner, there’s no better time than now to develop your brawling tactics!
Let’s get this brawl started with my first strategy tip!
Gate Card Placement: Conditional
The order in which you play your Gate cards is almost as important as which cards you choose to play with. Gate cards are unusual as they don’t necessarily do anything outside of a battle. It’s not until they are actually used in a brawl that you will see their full affect. So, you have to strategically think ahead when playing Gate cards.
Using a card more than once is a great battle tactic! Take for example, the Gate card ‘Flybeetle Rescue’ which allows you to put a used Red Ability card into your unused pile. When using this Gate card you need to make sure that by the time a battle begins on the card that you have a Red Ability card in your used pile. If you are using a Red Ability card with a generic use like ‘Try Again’, which allows you to re-roll any Pyrus, Haos, or Subterra Bakugan, then don’t play ‘Flybeetle Rescue’ until you have already used ‘Try Again’. However, if you are using a Red Ability card like ‘Flames of Light’ then you can play ‘Flybeetle Rescue’ first. Then, use the ‘Flames of Light’ to add a Bakugan to the Gate card when your opponent lands on it.
Using Gate cards and Ability cards in a strategic order is critical to claiming ultimate victory on the battlefield and is one of the most basic but necessary tactics to keep in mind.

Another awesome new special attack Bakugan to be released are the jumping boost Special Attack Bakugan. These Bakugan have the ability to literally jump as you launch them, though from reading reviews and watching videos, making them actually jump is pretty hard. However, they battle strategies that you can use with these jumping Bakugan are very cool because now, with a little practice, you can land on any card you want anywhere on the field. If you never could master the spin shot, now you've got a whole new shot to master: the Bakugan jump shot!
If you wonder how you can make your bakugan jump, it really is quite easy. On your Bakugan, there will be a small circle with arrows on it. Those arrows should be pointed towards the direction you are jumping, Put your finger on the circle, and press down like you were shooting it forwards. There is a spring loaded lever there that will pop out and jump your Bakugan. With a little practice, you can jump over other gate cards, or opponent Bakugan to land anywhere you want.
So far, there is only a Skryess/Ingram that has the jumping ability. It's very rare, and just like with the dice thrower Bakugan, we've never seen one in the stores. However, there are always a good number available on eBay!

Our latest Bakugan Spotlight is on the new special attack Bakugan that has come out: The Bakugan Dice Thrower. It seems like there is just no end to the cool ideas and special attack Bakugan that Spin Masters is putting out! Mystic Elico is the newest Dice throwing Bakugan. This particular Bakugan dice thrower has a random g power when popped open. Inside the Bakugan is a clear die, on each side of the die is a different random G Power. The G powers go as high as 810 Gs! That's pretty darn powerful!
Other dice thrower bakugan will come out with random attributes on the dice, or other different kinds of bonuses that we haven't yet seen! You can see the attribute changing dice thrower on the video at the bottom of this post.
So far, these Bakugan special attacks are super powerful and also super rare. I haven't ever seen one in the store, and only learned about them from this youtube video! As always, eBay is the best place to find these deals, so check them out! There are other new special attack bakugans that we can see in the video below like one that leaps over others, and even light up Bakugans like Moonlit Monarus!

The official Bakugan site has come out with new rulings on the new Bakugan B3 toy series. It released an updated Bakugan FAQ for how you can use all the new special treatment bakugan toys so hopefully all your questions are going to be answered now. If you have any questions about the B3 Bakugan toys and rules, then ask the question here and hopefully one of our knowledgeable readers and Bakugan Masters will step up and answer your questions!
Special Treatment Bakugan are any Bakugan that doesn't look like a normal Bakugan or has some special features and additions to it. Any attribute changing Bakugan must have their attributes chosen before the battle starts
Clear Bakugan, BakuCrystal Bakugan - These Bakugan are special because they don't have their own attribute, but they reflect the attribute of their opponent. If both of you play clear Bakugan than each player gets to pick which attribute they want. Once the attribute has been chosen, they cannot change it again (even if your opponent chooses to change theirs). When playing a clear bakugan against a Translucent Bakugan then you must wait tell the Translucent Bakugan chooses their attribute first before you can take theirs.
Pearl, BakuPearl, BakuFrost Bakugan - These Bakugan are special because they can choose to either receive their regular G power boost from the gate card or the special highlighted gate card bonus.
Translucent, BakuLyte, BakuSolar, BakuNeon Bakugan - These Bakugan get to either choose their attribute color or take on the attribute of the opponent. If played against an attribute-less Bakugan like a Clear Bakugan, since they don't have any color themselves, you must choose your own attribute.
Dual Attribute Bakugan - These Bakugan get to choose from the two attributes at the start of a battle. They do not get both bonuses, but rather just get the one from the attribute they choose to take on. When in the discarded pile, they can pick ONE attribute for a single g power bonus, but not both for a double bonus. If you want a double bonus, you should get a Bakugan Gauntlet!
White Naga - The White Naga super rare Bakugan uses the highlighte gate bonus for its G Power boost.
BakuMutation Bakugan - These mutant Bakugans get to choose to change their attribute only if they are currently battling against a special treatment Bakugan.
Ok, hopefully this helps to clarify how to use your special Bakugans and when you can use their special abilities. It is worthwhile to note that not all Special Treatment Bakugan and Special Attack Bakugan have special abilities, some just have cool and rare paint jobs or changes to make the game and characters more interesting. Collect. Train. Master
It's been a while since we've done a Bakugan Spotlight. This week's featured Bakugan is Orbit Viper Helios! Seriously, he may be THE coolest Bakugan ever made. Certainly the most complicated one. So far he is super rare, and we have never seen him in the stores. He comes with an impressive 680 G power, and is grey with orange highlights. We've only ever seen him with the Haos or Aquos attribute for some reason. Which is strange since I thought Helios was usually Pyrus.
Orbit Helios is different from the other Spin Bakugan and Turbine Bakugan. Spin Bakugan you have to wind up manually yourself by twisting the top and bottom, and when they pop open, the wound up spring would release and they would spin around. Turbine Bakugan are pretty cool, and I don't think many people realize their potential. You pull a rip cord through the ball, and set a turbine inside of it spinning. This lets you curve your Bakugan as you roll it onto the field and hit almost any spot you want with a little bit of practice! You'd never miss your gate card again if you mastered the turbine bakugan roll! But I digress... Orbit Helios is different, he is a (so far) one of a kind Orbit Bakugan. You don't manually twist him up, and you don't have to pull a rip cord. Just folding him into ball form winds up his spring action, and when you pop him out, he spins like a whirlwind which is surprisingly super cool!
So far, we haven't seen this actual Bakugan in the cartoon yet, though he may be an earlier evolution of Viper Helios. Or he may just be a collectible Bakugan. It doesn't really matter though, cause this guy is so stinking cool! Pushing in the wings in his side is all it takes to wind him up, and his claws and wings are made just right so that he spins super fast. Who knows, you might even manage to knock your opponent's bakugan off the gate card with his spinning action! We can't wait until we get an orbit Drago too!

We've been keeping a diligent eye on eBay recently for any sightings of brand new Bakugan B3. And we are proud to bring you the newest bakugan releases of the all new dinosaur type Bakugan that have been rumored to exist for some time. Reportedly these new balls will all combine with a special Bakugan cannon trap that attaches to their back. No word on what effect that might have, if any, though one of our readers (Spectra) has apparently managed to score the cannon trap already!
The new dinosaur or dragon type Bakugan are super cool looking and have ridiculously high G powers, like 650 G and up! We've spotted Phosphos, Coredem, Snapzoid, Dharak, Avior, Lumigrowl, and Helix Dragonoid (our favorite...), on eBay already. There is only one or two of each, and they are very expensive. But how cool would it be to be the first to own one of these super rare and unreleased bakugans?!
So far, very little is known about these awesome new Bakugans, but rest assured that we will be keeping you as up to date as we can on the coolest Bakugan findings, news, and rumors out there! Oh, and be sure to check out the video review of a few of these new Bakugans down below. They look super awesome! Anybody know how they combine with the Cannon trap and what it does?
